Clive Bawden, Founder & CEO, BoardSecure

BoardSecure was formed by award winning Director and Chartered Accountant Clive Bawden to solve a number of practical issues he encountered on the Boards of small, often fast growing SMEs and Charities. He explains:

"For over 15 years, I have been lucky enough to have sat on a mixture of Company, Charity and Sporting body boards. Some good, some not so good with hindsight...

Even as a chartered accountant, a diligent director (in my personal opinion, of course!) and with Board experience gained alongside many highly rated and experienced Directors, I have realised that:

  • Basic Board governance skills are rarely taught to anyone outside of public companies or large Charities
  • Even in one role as a Trustee for Audit & Risk in a medium sized charity working with a fantastic full time team, I struggled at times to really understand if all other Trustees complied with basic governance needs, processes and truly understood their role on the Board
  • Director training is too expensive for most to undertake, particularly those starting out on a portfolio or trustee career and the courses that are available are generally geared towards big company procedures and regulation.
  • Regulation is only going to increase...

BoardSecure was created to solve a number of the key issues I identified with in the roles I held. I have no doubt that the vast majority of SME Directors and Charity Trustees do their roles with the right end in sight, we just lack the resources and time to be specialists in everything! If BoardSecure can help you reduce your risks and at the same time strengthen your Board, then I will delighted - please let me know if so.

Likewise, if there are things you see that we don't yet provide for, don't hesitate to get in touch, I welcome your feedback and we develop and improve our product.

Thank you for taking the time to visit BoardSecure and I look forward to working with you."
